With increasing frequency, our vehicle carriers are in and out of the yard, dropping off vehicles for processing. Storing these vehicles can be a challenge due to the need to find proper storage solutions.
Vehicles arrive at the yard for several reasons, such as insurance write-off, expensive repairs, part-exchange, probate, abandoned, stolen/recovered, etc.
Vehicles destined for the baler must be ‘depolluted’, so this is their first port of call. Once depolluted, these can then go to the baler. Not all vehicles are scrapped, as some become donor vehicles for green, recycled original manufacturer auto parts, as there is such a demand for them to keep vehicle repair costs to a minimum.
“Did you know many vehicles can be used as donor vehicles for green, recycled original manufacturer auto parts instead of being scrapped? These parts are in high demand and can help reduce vehicle repair costs. Save money on expensive repairs when you can choose a more sustainable and cost-effective solution.”
We also hold salvage vehicles from insurance companies that need storing for periods of time. Insurance vehicles often are categorised as to what can happen to them.
Our experienced team will handle vehicles that we receive in different ways. Some vehicles are scrapped, and a Certificate of Destruction (COD) will be provided. Others will be dismantled to remove the original manufacturer parts before destroying the chassis. Lastly, some will be suitable for resale through private purchase, car auction or used for spare parts.
Other vehicles are for resale, whether in-house repair and resell or sold as is through connections to garages, body shops or at auction. These vehicles are treated differently to avoid damage and taken to our nearby auto centre.
With the elimination of the cars destined for resale, we must store the other vehicles until further notice. We have just over 6 acres of space in the yard, so we have proactively found a solution.
We have systematically replaced 2-high vehicle racking with 4-high from Wickens. The new racking has transformed the yard, enabling us to increase capacity and easily access selected cars.
Additionally, we invested in a Combilift C5000 XLE Multi Directional Forklift to work within the new racking. The combination of the new racking and the Combilift underpins our efforts to speed up our auto-recycling and processing of end-of-life vehicles—more updates to come.
